Brief Biography
This is my 18th year at Stoneybrooke. I teach 8th grade English and 7th and 8th grade electives. When I am not at school, I am usually grading essays at home or playing with my family -- my husband John, an art teacher at Aliso Niguel High School, and my 9-year-old son Strauss (rhymes with boss), a fourth grader at Stoneybrooke. If you are in my class, you will hear plenty of Strauss stories.
8th Grade Book Report Dates
Tue., 4/20 Fiction
Tue., 6/1 Fiction
8th Grade portfolios
Students and parents,
We put all quizzes, tests, DOL's, writings, etc., in portfolios so that you can see how you are progressing throughout the year. At the end of the year, you may take all your writings home.
You are welcome at any time to bring an item home to show your parents. I would just appreciate it if you would bring it back quickly so that it doesn't get lost. THANKS!
WHAT'S HAPPENING THIS WEEK
February 22-26 , 2010
In our ever vigilant efforts to protect your children, we have found it necessary to begin password protecting our weekly Admin Notes. Many times student names and grades appear in the notes and we would not want those names to be used for nefarious purposes by some unscrupulous person. Beginning Monday, March 8, we will password protect our Admin Notes with the code word "Defenders." The Admin Notes will continue to be emailed directly to you as usual but if you ever need to access the Admin Notes through our website you will need to use the password, "Defenders" to view them. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Bock.
Thank you!
8th Grade English -- I hope your trip was wonderful! You will get the chance to tell me all about it (well, the three things that impacted you the most, anyway) in a 5-paragraph essay. It sounds like a lot of work, but it's a great way to help you process all the stuff you've taken in in the last week.
Remember that you are doing a project for your next book report. I handed out the list of choices before DC. As you read your book, think about what you would like to do for the project.
We're entering into POETRY now. This will be good for all of us because poetry is so awesome, but it will also possibly help those of you that are taking entrance exams for some of the high schools.
Now that the research paper is completed, we're back at vocabulary too. FUN!
Important Due Dates:
Wed., 3/10 Vocabulary test on Unit 7
Thu., 3/11 DC paper due
Fri., 3/12 Vocabulary Unit 8 in book due
Wed., 3/17 Vocabulary test on Unit 8

We're entering into POETRY now. This will be good for all of us because poetry is so awesome, but it will also possibly help those of you that are taking entrance exams for some of the high schools. Along with that we'll be reading Out of the Dust by Karen Hesse. It's a story, but written in blank verse. We'll be analyzing passages, which should also help you on entrance exams.

7th Grade Literature -- Welcome to literature, a class where we just get to sit and read and ENJOY the written word. It's storytime! The first book we will be reading is The Giver by Lois Lowry. There is no homework requirement. You will be quizzed on what we have read periodically, but you mostly just read and enjoy. Know that we read roughly 20 pages per class period, so if you miss class, it is your responsibility to keep up. You can grab a book from me to do that if necessary.
Important Dates:
7th Grade Spanish -- Great job on the flashcards! Let's see how far we get in class for homework.
