What's Up This Week-March 8-12, 2010
8th History
During the first part of the week the students will draw a picture based on any topic in Chapter 15. Guidelines are below.
We will begin our study of the Gilded Age later this week. After the Civil War the U.S. became an economic force in the world. Great industrialists such as Rockefeller, Carnegie, Astor, and others accumulated great wealth. Below the surface, however, the U.S. had many severe social and economic problems-especially in the cities.
Also below are the guidelines for the DC Memory Book due in May.

WashingtonDC 2010 Memory Book Guidelines
DC Memory Books will be due Friday May 7th. It is suggested that students use a photo album to display the pictures, brochures and mementos collected on the trip. Captions are very important. Parental input is absolutely OK. Brochures can be displayed or included in pocket of the album. Do not use an internet memory book service to make your booklet on-line. This is a cut-and-paste assignment.
I have included the grading rubric to help students know what is expected. Several parents have asked if I am requiring that they employ fancy scrap-booking materials to ensure a good grade. The answer is “No”! The point of this project is for the student to have a record of his/her trip to WashingtonDC. It is not necessary to have stickers and other decorations to receive a good grade. I often tell the kids that in 10 or 20 years they will really appreciate that they put this memory book together. Their kids (your grandchildren) will enjoy seeing what they were up to in 8th grade! Grading will be based on the following:
Brochures ______ out of 30
Photos ______ out of 30
Captions ______ out of 30
Neatness ______ out of 30
General appearance ______ out of 30
